On With the Hunger Games!

For those of you who have yet to see the hunger games, here’s a little preview! I’ve seen a lot of Japanese slasher movies where a group of young people are forced to fight to the death under some sort of revolutionary government act. I would say that Hunger Games is the diluted Western version of this! I thought the concept of this is interesting, because usually Americans have been pretty tight about kids killing each other in films lol. I guess times change! The movie is a cross between Twilight and Battle Royale, and is set in what was once North America, now known as Panem. The tyrannical Capitol makes each of its twelve districts send Tributes (one boy and girl between the ages 12- 18) to compete and kill each other until there is one winner. The makeup used in this film was very couture when looking at the people from the Capital. Funny hats, bright colors, and non-so-sure what era it is dress. I guess they were trying to reference the excess of the European Baroque period? Anyway, people from the district were represented as simple, rural, down trodden, but strong in spirit. You can really see this represented in the main character, Katniss Everdeen, as she is strong, smart, athletic, and willing to risk her life for the ones she loved most. At the end, you really do feel bad for everyone who died! Anyway, don’t want to ruin too much for everyone, have you seen the Hunger Games?! 🙂
